Upon arrival on the islands, he was welcomed on red carpet by coalition partner, Jumhoory Party’s Leader Qasim Ibrahim, alongside residents of Maamgili.

President Solih is accompanied by Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer, Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail and other senior government officials.

They had arrived at Maamgili this morning.

Commenting on the unofficial trip, Jumhoory Party’s Spokesperson and State Minister for Environment , Climate Change and Technology, Ali Solih said that the purpose of the trip is for President Solih and Qasim to hold discussions. However, he had not disclosed matters which be discussed on this trip, citing it was too early.

Ali Solih detailed that President Solih’s next destination on this trip would be Qasim’s Sun Island Resort.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, for the first time, announced plans to run for a second term at a press conference held on Wednesday evening. He stressed that it would be impossible for a single political party to win the presidential election alone, and that it would require a coalition.

“It would be impossible unless with the joint effort of multiple parties. I am confident I will win in 2023 with an MDP-led coalition,” he had said.

In response to this, Jumhoory Party said that they will be competing in the presidential election scheduled for next year – however, adding they have yet to decide whether it will be through the coalition or not.
