K. Maafushi Council has announced plans to open a floating water park in the island for the upcoming Eid al-Adha.
In a statement on Tuesday, the council announced the water park will be open from 08:00 am to 04:00 pm on the first three days of the Eid holiday.
The park will be open for people of all age groups, and will have lifeguards to ensure safety.
Maafushi Council’s president Hassan Salah told Sun the water park was sponsored by Dhonmanik Skyview Restaurant.
The park will stretch over 4,500 square feet, and will be located in the lagoon near the children’s park “Maafahivathi”.
“Since the Eid holiday will last around five days, we estimate some 8,000 visitors to the island,” said Salah.
Maafushi is the most popular island in Maldives for local tourism, and has multiple water sports businesses.
The island has 1,600 tourist beds, and some of the guesthouses are already getting booked for the holiday.
Salah said the council has also made arrangements to facilitate round the clock travel in and out of the island during Eid.
