Weekly Covid update: Only nine cases from atolls last week

Statistics publicized by Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Monday, shows that the COVID-19 outbreak in atolls have been brought under significant control.

As per the statistics – a total 84 new cases were reported in Maldives in the one-week period from May 29 – June 4. This includes 37 cases from the greater Male’ region, 9 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 38 cases from other areas such as resorts and industrial islands.

Comparing the statistics from the one-week period from May 22-28 – a total of 91 cases were reported within this period including 40 cases from the greater Male’ region, 24 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 27 cases from other areas such as resorts and industrial islands.

Although cases from Male’ area and atolls decreased during the period of May 29 – June 4 – cases from other areas such as resorts and industrial islands had increased.

With 84 new cases last week – Maldives now has 179,837 confirmed cases. 299 people have died from complications.
