Boat tied to liveaboard vessel goes missing off Kurendhoo

A fishing boat tied to a liveaboard vessel has been reported missing in Lh. Atoll after the rope broke, prompting a search operation by Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Coastguard.

MNDF identified the missing boat as “Maakoni”, a 23-feet reef fishing boat which had been tied to a liveaboard vessel traveling from Male’ City to Soneva Jani - a luxury resort in N. Atoll.

The boat went missing a mile off the coast of Lh. Kurendhoo.

The incident was reported at 10:35 pm on Tuesday.

MNDF said that the Coastguard first squadron and the boat’s owner had launched a search operation to locate the boat.

They have asked vessels traveling in the area and neighboring islands to keep an eye out for the boat.
