MTCC commences work on Alifushi land reclamation project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced physical works of the land reclamation project in R. Alifushi. 

Alifushi Council’s president Adam Imran told Sun that physical works of the project commenced at 08:30 am Sunday. 

The land reclamation and airport development project in Alifushi is valued at MVR 451 million. 

50.5 hectors of land will be reclaimed under the project, 40.5 hectors of which are for the airport – which will have a 1,200-meter runway. 

The remaining 10 hectors are to be used for the development of the island and for residential purposes. 

MTCC will also install 2,871 meters of revetment to protect the newly reclaimed land, and a 480-meter groyne. 

MTCC was contracted to complete the project in 750 days.
