In line with this year’s theme for Word Telecommunications Day, ‘Digital Technologies for Older Persons and Health Ageing’ – Ooredoo Maldives has launched a special postpaid plan dedicated to the elderly community.
Titled ‘Israhvehinge Package’; the plan was launched by Gender Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi, during a special ceremony held today.
“Ooredoo's senior citizen postpaid package is a great initiative which will make it a lot easier for the elderly community to navigate through and become a part of the digital world,” she remarked during the launching ceremony.
Ooredoo Maldives reports that the plan was launched in order to enable, encourage and boost the adoption of digital technology usage among the elderly community.
The telecommunication company said that ‘Israhvehinge Package’ provides up to 30 percent discount on their chosen postpaid monthly fee alongside free data dedicated to Viber to customers who are over 60 years. Apart from this, all customers subscribing to the package will receive Club Premier Gold membership benefits including special discounts and offers from a wide range of local and international brands and businesses.
Commenting regarding the newly launched package, Ooedoo’s CEO, Managing Director Khalid Al-Hamadi stressed the importance of ensuring all ages are included and benefit from digital advancements.
“Internet has rapidly become a crucial necessity of people's life, especially during the post-pandemic era. We now greatly depend on technology not just for communication but to access information, accelerate our economy and even to provide quality health care services. It is important to ensure that all ages are included and benefitted through digital advancements. Today, we launch this special package for the elderly community to encourage their involvement in the digital world to enrich and empower their lives. Technology brings new opportunities, improving the health and overall quality of life, and we remain committed in continuing our efforts to enrich the lives of our elderly community through digital,” he had said.
Ooredoo also underscored they will continue to hold Digital Literacy Programs and awareness sessions across the Maldives – to further accelerate the adoption rate of digital technologies by the senior citizens.
Introduced by Ooredoo in 2018, Digital Literacy Program comprises of sessions focusing on cyber safety, and basic navigation through commonly used digital platforms among the elderly community to stay connected, access information and receive services.
The telecom company reiterated its commitment to enriching the lives of the people and improving the quality of life through digital means as a community-focused company.
