MP Siyam calls for harsher punishments to those committing sexual abuse against minors

Leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and Parliament representative for Meedhoo, MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has urged improving the investigation procedure of cases surrounding the sexual abuse of children and booking the assailant for the harshest punishment possible.

In a statement released on Tuesday, in conjunction with National Children’s Day being celebrated across the Maldives – Siyam had extended well wishes on the occasion to all children and parents.

Underscoring that children are an important fraction of every society – Siyam stressed the importance of educating children safely and properly for the sake of the future. He added that the aforesaid work is based upon religious and nationalistic characteristics.  

Siyam, in his statement, expressed extreme concern regarding the increased physical and psychological abuse of children in the Maldives.

“I urge a more serious probe of cases involving sexual abuse of children and the enforcement of the harshest possible punishments on those committing such indecent crimes,” he added.

Siyam also pointed out the pertinent need to enhance measures currently in place to ensure the safety and protection of children.

“My earnest advice is that all citizens collaboratively work to raise children safely, through a foundation of comprehensive education,” he had said.

Maldives celebrates May 10th of every year as National Children’s Day.
