Police have begun looking into a threat made against former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom via a video posted on social media.
In the video in question, Maldives Youth Force accused ‘a former president’ of attempting to starve the country, and said his claims of Maldives being under the military control of a foreign country were lies.
Police said on Thursday evening that a complaint regarding a threat made against Yameen via a video on social media was lodged with the police on Monday May 2.
A second complaint was lodged on May 3 asking to investigate a Facebook post, said the police.
Police said they were looking into both complaints.
The threat against Yameen has also been submitted to the Parliament’s Security Services Committee.
The case was submitted by PPM deputy leader, Guraidhoo MP Ghassan Maumoon.
