Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced high-speed ferry services for the islands of Haa Dhaalu Atoll on Monday, under the first phase of the ‘Integrated National Public Ferry Network’ which aims to connect the Maldivian islands through a high-speed ferry network.
The first phase of the ‘Integrated National Public Ferry Network’ aims to link 41 islands in the atolls; Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyani – referred to as Zone 1. Within these atolls, services are first commencing at Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
In this regard, ferry services launched on Monday afternoon amongst 13 islands in Haa Dhaalu Atoll – with speedboats traveling on five routes.
MTCC said that customers can travel fare-free during the first ten days from the commencement of service. They highlighted the reasons behind this decision as to let customers familiarize themselves with a brand new service and to accommodate easements in traveling during the Eid-al-Fitr holidays.
In connecting the islands of Haa Dhaalu Atoll, a total of four speedboats – each with the capacity of 50 passengers – are in operation. MTCC stressed that the speedboats are designed in a manner that provides comfort and ease for passengers.
Respectively, the speedboats are air-conditioned and equipped with USB charging ports at every seat. All ferries have a restroom and a separate storing area for luggage. Passengers will be permitted one carry-on luggage in addition to their main luggage.
During the fare-free travel period – tickets can only be booked through local councils in Haa Dhaalu Atoll. Following the expiration of this period, the allocated ticket fare will be charged from customers. This would cease the booking of tickets through local councils.
Therewith, starting from May 11, tickets for ferry service can be booked through a dedicated website for the ‘Raajje Transport Link’ (RTL) service and through its mobile application. The mobile application is available for download on both App Store and Google Play Store.
The ferry schedule may also be viewed through the website.
MTCC said familiarizing one’s self with the website or application would significantly ease the travel process.
In the capacity of the largest company providing transportation services in the Maldives – MTCC reiterated its commitment to providing efficient land and sea transport services for customers at a fair price.
