First couple arrives at Maafushi for Eid festivities

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have arrived at K. Maafushi for Eid-al-Fitr festivities.

In response to an invitation extended by Maafushi Council – the first couple arrived at the island around 11:45am this morning, on the presidential launch.

Many Maafushi residents gathered at the island’s harbor area to welcome the first couple.

The first couple had greeted and taken photos with the residents gathered to welcome them.

On their trip to Maafushi, the first couple will participate in a traditional banquet and children’s festival scheduled for the evening.

Maafushi will be one of the islands at which Eid-al-Fitr is celebrated the most colorfully this year. The island’s council reported that over 2,000 people had traveled to the island in conjunction with the Eid holidays.

Eid day had kickstarted at Maafushi with Eid prayer being performed in mass congregation which was followed by a breakfast banquet.

A music show is set to take place at night which will be followed by a firework display.
