Council: Only one market to be established in Male’ City for Ramadan

Male’ City Council had decided against the development of one of the two temporary local markets planned for Male’ City, for this Ramadan.

In this regard, the Council said that they have decided against the development of the temporary market planned to be located at Rasfannu Parking Zone. They cited the reason for this as having received many complaints from the public regarding difficulties faced over lack of parking space in the area.

“With this change, City Council is presently working in allocating an additional space to develop a temporary market. Should a suitable place not be found, only one of the two temporary markets planned for Male’ City, for this Ramadan, will be developed. It has also been decided that a temporary market will be developed at Vilimale’,” they had said.

The two temporary markets planned for Male’ City, for this Ramadan, was to be located at Dharubaaruge area and Rasfannu Parking Zone.

The Council said that they made the decision to develop temporary markets for Ramadan as to ease difficulties the public may face in purchasing food products due to overcrowding at existing local markets.

They stressed that the establishment of a temporary market at Vilimale’ will save residents living at the district from having to travel to Male’ for shopping.
