The man arrested on suspicions of attacking a muezzin in Th. Dhiyamigili on Sunday morning, has been remanded in custody pending outcome of trial.
Police said that the suspect – a 35-year-old Maldivian man – was presented before Madifushi Magistrate Court for a remanding hearing, at which he was remanded in police custody pending outcome of the trial.
Police also detailed that the victim – a 55-year-old Maldivian man – was being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
The attack took place at approximately 09:35 am in the Thinkolhufushi area of Dhiyamigili on Sunday.
The victim, a muezzin, sustained multiple stab wounds in the attack, including four deep wounds on his back.
He was initially treated at the Dhiyamigili Health Center, before getting transferred to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ City.
