Charges have been filed against an Indian man who stabbed his wife in their apartment in Male’ City in February.
The suspect arrested in the case has been identified as a 37-year-old Indian man, Sreenivasan Subramani.
Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) said that they have filed charges against Subramani at the Criminal Court over the stabbing of his wife.
He is charged with assault using a dangerous weapon or a sharp object under the Penal Code.
Subramani is currently in police custody under a Criminal Court order. State had requested that he be remanded in custody pending outcome of the trial, however, Court remanded him in custody for 15 days only.
Police said that both Subramani and his wife sustained wounds from sharp objects; with his wife’s injuries being more serious in nature.
According to the police, his wife had two wounds on her thigh. An X-ray taken from Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) showed the blade lodged inside her thigh.
Subramani, in his remand hearing, said that he stabbed his wife, also an Indian national, with a knife during a verbal dispute.
He told the court that he panicked when he saw the police arrive, and stabbed himself with a stomach with a different knife.
