Indian woman fined MVR 60,000 for smuggling gold into Maldives

Criminal Court has fined an Indian woman who attempted to smuggle 2.9 kilos of gold to Maldives by MVR 60,000, and has ordered for the gold to be taken into custody of the state.

Sayid Thasleem Nadeem Khan was arrested on January 18, after authorities found gold bullets hidden inside her underwear and inside her anal cavity.

1,835.2 grams of gold was found hidden inside her bra and underpants, and two bullets of gold were found inside her anal cavity.

The prosecution said the gold found on her weighed total 2,891.9 grams.

The prosecution asked for the court to order for the gold to be taken into custody of the state.

Khan was charged with smuggling.

She confessed to smuggling the gold at court, and signed a plea deal with the prosecution.

The Criminal Court issued its sentence in the case on Thursday, March 3.

The court fined the woman by MVR 60,000 and ordered her to pay the fine within five days.

The court also ordered for the gold seized from her to be taken into custody of the state.
