Maldives has voted to demand an immediate halt of Russia’s attack on Ukraine and the withdrawal of all Russian troops at an emergency session of the United Nations General Assembly held on Wednesday.
At the emergency session held on Wednesday night, member countries of the General Assembly passed a resolution titled ‘Aggression against Ukraine’, which demands the immediate halt of Russia’s attack on Ukraine and the withdrawal of all Russian troops.
The emergency session was attended by 193 member countries. Out of this, 141 countries voted in favor of the resolution. Meanwhile, five countries, including Russia itself, had voted against the resolution. These countries are Belarus, Syria, Eritrea and North Korea.
All countries that joined Russia in opposing the resolution maintain close ties with the country.
In response to a call from Russia’s President Vlamdir Putin, the country commenced attacks against Ukraine on last Thursday. Subsequently, the whole of Ukraine is currently in a state of fear.
They have requested assistance from many countries in order to defend themselves. In this regard, on Wednesday, they had requested assistance from the Chinese military.
Many international organizations have made statements condemning Russia’s attacks on Ukraine. Countries are also imposing different kinds of sanctions against Russia and its people.
