COVID-19: Maldives records 656 new cases in 24 hours

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Monday, announced 656 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 165,729.     

According to HPA, the 656 new cases include; 79 cases from the greater Male’ region, 497 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 48 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 702 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 150,436. 

With the new developments, Maldives now has 14,088 active cases.      

There are 23 patients in hospitals.      

4,191 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,161 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 7 percent.

Maldives has recorded 292 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 398,088 people have received their first dose and 370,765 people have been fully vaccinated, and 120,191 have received their booster dose.
