Maldives records additional 844 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, announced 844 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 165,073.     

According to HPA, the 844 new cases include; 104 cases from the greater Male’ region, 670 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 38 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 866 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 149,734.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 15,035 active cases.      

There are 24 patients in hospitals.      

3,996 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,018 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 13 percent.

Maldives has recorded 291 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 398,072 people have received their first dose and 370,710 people have been fully vaccinated, and 118,369 have received their booster dose.
