COVID-19: Maldives record 805 new cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Thursday, announced 805 new cases of COVID-19, increasing the total confirmed cases in Maldives to 162,974.     

The agency detailed that from the new cases; 90 are from the greater Male’ region, 637 are from residential islands outside Male’, and 52 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, a total of 1,006 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 147,167.    

With these new developments, Maldives now has 15,504 active cases.      

HPA also noted that currently, there are 28 patients seeking hospitalized care.      

Over the last 24-hours, a total of 4,411 samples were tested for COVID-19, including 1,408 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at six percent.

Maldives has recorded 290 COVID-19 fatalities to date. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February 2021. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age six months later, in August and began administering the booster dose the same month. 

 

As of Tuesday, 398,026 people have received their first dose and 370,639 people have been fully vaccinated, and 114,039 have received their booster dose.
