Maldives records 10th COVID-19 fatality in February, death toll rises to 287

Maldives has recorded the 10th COVID-19 fatality in February.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced the death of a COVID-19 patient admitted at Gn. Atoll Hospital today.

The deceased has been identified as an 80-year-old Maldivian man. He passed away at 11:42pm this afternoon.

His death increases the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the Maldives to 287.

Maldives is currently battling a surge in COVID-19 cases, fueled by the new and more contagious omicron variant.

Within the last 24 hours, HPA announced 1,096 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 154,511.     

Meanwhile, 1,368 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 138,117.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 16,095 active cases.      

There are 60 patients in hospitals.
