Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof revealed that delays in completing the football pitch in R. Meedho were due to the unavailability of sand.
Parliamentarian for that constituency MP Adam Shareef had sent written inquiries to the Minister regarding the delays.
In his written response read during the Parliament session on Wednesday, the Youth Minister stated that the sane required for the subbase of the pitch was not available from the island.
Noting that this was the cause of the delays, Mahloof added that the ministry was working on acquiring the sand needed.
He further stated that turf for the pitch was sent to Meedhoo, and the project to construct the fencing and surrounding walls have now been contracted.
After considerable delays in completing the subbase, the youth of Meedhoo planted chilli plants in the area allotted for the pitch on November 21, 2021.
They expressed that if further delays, they will plant more trees, sell what they grow and use the income generated towards completing the work themselves.
