Newly elected Komandoo member Raashid takes oath

Newly elected member for the Parliament's Komandoo constituency Mohamed Raashid took the oath of office on Wednesday morning.

During a special ceremony held at the Parliament building, Raashid was sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Husnu Al Suood. 

The Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, as well as some of the other Parliamentarians, were present during the ceremony.

After being sworn in, MP Raashid attended took part in the Parliament session afterwards. 

Three candidates contested in the Komandoo by-election; Mohamed Rashid from Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Moosa Fathuhy from Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Abdul Hannan Idrees from Maldives National Party (MNP). 

The official results announced by EC on Monday show Rashid won the election with 1,441 votes. His closest rival, Fathuhy won 1,161 votes, while Hannan won 323 votes.     

Komandoo parliamentary seat was left vacant following the death of MP Hussain Waheed on December 14, 2021. He died at the age of 53 years in a hospital in Male’ City after a year-long battle with cancer.
