COVID-19: 2,180 new cases; 17,743 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Tuesday, announced 2,180 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 141,060.     

According to HPA, the 2,180 new cases include; 931 cases from the greater Male’ region, 811 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 63 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 2,206 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 123,027.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 17,743 active cases.      

There are 63 patients in hospitals.      

6,403 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 3,082 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 30 percent. 

With the 2,180 new infections on Tuesday, 18,283 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.  

February 1: 2,180 cases 

January 31: 2,754 cases 

January 30: 2,838 cases 

January 29: 2,689 cases 

January 28: 2,510 cases 

January 27: 2,499 cases 

January 26: 2,813 cases 

Maldives has recorded 277 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February last year. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age six months later, in August, and began administering the booster dose the same month. 

As of Monday, 397,642 people have received their first dose and 369,883 people have been fully vaccinated, and 75,884 have received their booster dose.
