Ministry of Tourism revealed that so far in 2022, there has been a 48 percent increase in tourist arrivals compared to previous years.

As per the statistics by the ministry, until 26 January 2022, 109,842 tourists arrived in Maldives. For the same period in 2021, only 76,059 tourists visited the country.

The numbers show that the highest number of tourists came from Russia, with 20,244 arrivals, which made 18.4 percent of the total.

Russia was followed by the United Kingdom, with 9.2 percent of tourists being from the region. A total of 10,244 arrivals were from the UK so far this year.

Meanwhile, the third-highest arrivals were recorded from India, with 9,044 tourists, which made up eight percent of total arrivals.

Additionally, the time tourists spend in the country had increased this year as well. Guests spent an average of 9.2 days in Maldives this year, while in 2021, stayed for only 8.7 days.

Notably, China, which led the arrival list in 2019 has not been spotted in the top ten arrivals even.

Due to the decline in tourism following the global pandemic in 2020, last year the industry made a come back with over 1.3 million tourists visiting Maldives.
