Housing Ministry: Will update on work progression of Thilamale’ bridge project very soon

Housing Ministry has state that they will disclose information on work progression of Thilamale’ bridge project very soon.

The agreement pertaining to Thilamale’ bridge project was signed between the government and India’s Afcons Infrastructure on August 26.

The project is financed under an Indian grant of USD 100 million and a USD 400 concessional credit line from India’s Exim Bank. 

State Minister for Housing Akram Kamaluddin told Sun tonight that the Ministry was working on disclosing information on work progression of the Thilamale’ bridge project very soon.

He also added that some medias were reporting false news regarding the work progression of the bridge based on what is seen.

Housing Ministry has handed over a large portion of Male’ Industrial Zone to Afcons Infrastructure to carry out some of the work pertaining to the bridge.

Afcons Infrastructure is currently utilizing the site for some work – however, Housing Ministry did not specify what work is being done.

However, on January 19, the Ministry stated that physical works on a geotechnical survey in Male’ and Villingili would commence in a week’s time.

Thilamale’ bridge project involves construction of a 6.74-kilometer-long bridge along with a causeway link. According to the Indian High Commission in Maldives, the bridges between islands will measure 140 kilometers.  

Signalized junctions will be built at the land interchanges in Male’ and Vilimale’, and roundabouts will be built in Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi. 

Bus terminals will also be built at the bridge junction in each island.
