Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 2,137 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 108,732.
According to HPA, the 2,137 new cases include; 1,219 cases from the greater Male’ region, 547 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 89 cases from operational resorts, and 4 cases from liveaboards.
Meanwhile, 642 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 98,880.
With the new developments, Maldives now has 9,574 active cases.
There are 43 patients in hospitals.
7,171 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 3,361 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 36 percent.
With the 2,137 new infections on Wednesday, 9,097 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.

Maldives has recorded 265 COVID-19 deaths.
Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February last year. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age six months later, in August, and began administering the booster dose the same month.
As of Tuesday, 397,290 people have received their first dose and 368,963 people have been fully vaccinated, and 40,571 have received their booster dose.
