COVID-19: 1,209 new cases; Male’ positivity rate at 26%

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, announced 1,209 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 103,581.     

According to HPA, the 1,209 new cases include; 575 cases from the greater Male’ region, 408 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 155 cases from operational resorts, and 4 cases from liveaboards. 

Meanwhile, 111 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 97,328.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 5,975 active cases.      

There are 26 patients in hospitals.      

5,061 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 2,215 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 26 percent. 

With the 1,209 new infections on Sunday, 5,529 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.  

January 16: 1,209 cases 

January 15: 954 cases 

January 14: 967 cases 

January 13: 816 cases 

January 12: 536 cases 

January 11: 593 cases 

January 10: 454 cases 

Maldives has recorded 265 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August. 

As of Saturday, 397,179 people have received their first dose and 368,751 people have been fully vaccinated, and 32,527 have received their booster dose.
