MoU signed on enhancing services provided to elderly at Guraidhoo Special Needs Home

Gender Ministry, on Sunday, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aged Care Maldives to enhance the services provided to the elderly living at Home for People with Special Needs in K. Guraidhoo.

The MoU was signed at a special ceremony held at Gender Ministry by Gender Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi. Meanwhile, CEO Dr. Aminath Jaleel signed on behalf of Aged Care Maldives.

Aged Care Maldives is a non-governmental organization that focuses on the needs of the senior populace in the Maldives.

In a statement released by Gender Ministry, they noted that the purpose of the agreement is to enhance the services being provided to the elderly living at Home for People with Special Needs in Guraidhoo - and subsequently create a safe and pleasant environment for them there.

Terms agreed to under the agreement between Gender Ministry and Aged Care Maldives include conducting training programs to enhance the skills of caregivers based at the Home once every four months.

Additional terms include assisting in the creation of schedule through discussions with the staff at the Home to conduct physiotherapy, exercising and other activities on a regular basis; assisting in the organization of entertainment activities at the Home and formulating beneficial diet plans under the advice of a dietitian and reviewing it every three months.

The duration of the agreement is for a period of one year.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Gender Minister said that the agreement will lead to enhancing services provided to elderly living at the Home for People with Special Needs in Guraidhoo. She also described a training program being conducted that is specially curated for the caregivers at the Home as a feat achieved in bettering the quality of services at the Home.

Aged Care Maldives’ CEO Dr. Aminath said that the program planned for caregivers will be very beneficial – described it as a start to improve the quality of services provided to the elderly.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Home for People with Special Needs in Guraidhoo’s CEO Yooshau Shihaan noted that a certified training program has not previously been conducted for the staff working at the Home – adding that the staff work in light of their own experiences.

Therefore, he said that the training program for the staff will significantly aid in their development.
