Parliament Speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that the citizens of Maldives do not wish for a government other than that of Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) to exist in the country.
Taking part in the ceremony held last night at Komandoo to launch the campaign of MDP’s candidate, Mohamed Rashid, for the Komadoo parliamentary seat by-election virtually – Nasheed requested Komandoo residents to show that it is the best MDP remains in the governance of Maldives.
He went on to say that Komandoo by-election is a signal for this; requesting the residents of the constituency to announce that they will be voting for the ‘scale’ during this election.
Noting to know of complaints by the people as some matters have unfolded in a manner they did not wish for in MDP’s governance – Nasheed stressed that this is not a reason for them to leave MDP.
“Please do remember, this is not a reason why any person should leave us. Should not let one hole sting twice. People do not wish for a government other than that of MDP’s to be formed in the Maldives,” he had said.
Criticizing the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives’ (PPM) policy of gathering people into one place – Nasheed said that MDP’s policy is not to further congest Male’ City by gathering people there. He stressed that it is not right to vote against MDP’s policy.
“Our competitors are pledging to dissolve Komandoo, and all other islands and relocate these people to Hulhumale’,” he had said.
Nasheed stressed that those who vision to relocate everyone to Male’ area will surely not think about developing the islands.
