COVID-19: 281 test positive, over 3000 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday stated that 281 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed, bringing the total cases in Maldives to 97,331.      

According to HPA, the new cases include;100 cases from the greater Male’ region, 88 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 89 cases from operational resorts. 

With this, Maldives now has 3,086 active cases, of which 12 are hospitalized. 

Meanwhile, 103 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 93,968.    

3,601 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,032 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 9 percent, which is a two percent jump compared to the past 24-hours. 

January 6 : 304 cases  

January 5: 224 cases 

January 4: 228 cases 

January 3: 242 cases 

January 2: 161 cases 

January 1: 191 cases 

December 31: 160 cases 

December 30: 120 cases 

Maldives has recorded 264 COVID-19 deaths.

By the beginning of this year, the number of cases was in the 100's. However, the daily figures have been increasing since, with the country breaking the record for the highest number of cases recorded within 24hours for this year on January 6 with 304 cases.
