Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is scheduled to visit Sh. Komandoo next week to take part in PPM candidate Moosa Fathuhy Adam’s campaign for the Komandoo parliamentary by-elections.

Deputy leader of PPM’s coalition partner PNC, MP Adam Shareef Umar said Yameen is scheduled to visit Komandoo on January 14.

Shareef said Yameen will take part in the door-to-door campaign event.

“President Yameen, during his visit, will go to homes to visit the people,” he said.

Shareef said Fathuhy’s campaign is going ahead at full swing.

“The campaign is already well underway in Male’ and three more islands. And we will go to the electoral district for the campaign tomorrow,” he said.

The announcement of Yameen’s upcoming visit to Komandoo comes after MDP announced President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s upcoming visit to the island on Friday.

Fathuhy is running in the by-elections against the MDP candidate Mohamed Rashid and MNP candidate Abdul Hannan Idrees.

The Komandoo parliamentary seat was left vacant following the death of MP Hussain Waheed on December 14. He died at the age of 53 years in a hospital in Male’ City after a year-long battle with cancer.

The by-election is scheduled to be held on February 5.
