Judge Faiz’s suspension revoked as voice does not match leaked audios

Criminal Court’s Judge Hussain Faiz Rashad’s suspension has been revoked as his voice does not match the leaked audios regarding former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s 2019 money laundering trial. 

Prior to this – Judicial Service Commission (JSC) said that investigation onto the leaked audios of three judges involved in former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s 2019 money laundering trial which appear to suggest the conviction had been influenced - found that only Judge Faiz’s voice was a match to the audios.

Subsequently, the Commission decided to suspend him for a period of 60 days in November – until they make a decision regarding the matter.  

In a statement released tonight, JSC said that the forensic analysis conducted by the digital forensic made by Malaysia’s Ministry of Communication and Multimedia – show that the voice in the leaked audio does not match that of Judge Faiz.

Therefore, they said they a revoking the suspension of Judge Faiz also in light of the fact that the leaked audios circulating on social media is illegitimate in addition to Judge Faiz having denied to have said the contents of the audio.

Previously, JSC said that though Faiz denies that it is his voice on the clip, and though police found his audio clip, too, to have been tampered with, the forensic analysis confirmed the voice on the clip matched with his voice.

However, they added to have taken note that the clip which matches with Judge Faiz’s voice does not explicitly state that anyone switched the judges in the trial, or asked for the judges in the trial to be switched, or that any effort was made to influence the trial.
