COVID-19: 120 new cases, 49 from Male' area

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday, announced 120 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 94,564.   

According to HPA, the 120 new cases include; 49 cases from the greater Male’ region, 36 cases from residential islands outside of Male’, and 35 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 106 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 92,351.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,939 active cases.      

There are 12 patients in hospitals.      

5,639 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,674 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 2 percent.

Maldives has recorded 261 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August. 

As of present, 396,570 people have received their first dose and 366,892 people have been fully vaccinated, and 24,201 have received their booster dose.
