COVID-19: 162 new cases, 118 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 162 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 93,532.      

According to HPA, the 162 new cases include; 29 cases from the greater Male’ region, 118 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 15 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 133 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 91,251.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 2,009 active cases.      

There are 23 patients in hospitals.      

4,593 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,084 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 2 percent.

Maldives has recorded 259 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 396,288 people have received their first dose and 365,882 people have been fully vaccinated, and 21,101 have received their booster dose.
