COVID-19: 125 new cases; 1,861 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Thursday, announced 125 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 92,754.      

According to HPA, the 125 new cases include; 23cases from the greater Male’ region, 93 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 7 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 140 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 90,625.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,861 active cases.      

There are 16 patients in hospitals.      

3,701 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 875 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 2 percent. 

With the 125 new infections on Thursday, 861 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.  

December 9: 125 cases 

December 8: 128 cases 

December 7: 133 cases 

December 6: 157 cases 

December 5: 116 cases 

December 4: 102 cases 

December 3: 100 cases 

Maldives has recorded 255 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August. 

As of Wednesday, 396,106 people have received their first dose and 365,177 people have been fully vaccinated, and 18,124 have received their booster dose.
