Education Ministry has announced that A-level exams will hereafter be held in Maldives in October/November.

In a circular to schools, Education Ministry said the decision was made based on the change brought to the start of the academic year.

Education Ministry said that schools have expressed concern that preparing students for exams in May/June, given that the academic year now begins in August, poses difficulties.

“Schools have pointed out that if students take their exams in May/June, it will be difficult to meet 180 hours the students need as guided learning,” reads the circular.

Education Ministry said that it made the decision to hold the exams in October/November following discussions with the principals of all schools with A-level students.

The ministry said that all school officials wanted a decision that was of most benefit to the students.
