COVID-19: 118 new cases, 70 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Tuesday, announced 118 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 90,117.      

According to HPA, the 118 new cases include; 35 cases from the greater Male’ region, 70 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 13 cases from operational resorts.

Meanwhile, 165 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 87,703.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 2,154 active cases.      

There are 10 patients in hospitals.      

3,349 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 905 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 2 percent.

Maldives has recorded 247 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August.

As of present, 395,125 people have received their first dose and 361,197 people have been fully vaccinated.
