President Solih returns to Maldives from Sri Lanka, after officiating Four Nations Cup

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has arrived back in Maldives from neighboring Sri Lanka – after officiating the opening ceremony of the ‘Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy 2021’ football tournament. 

Alternatively known as the Four Nations Cup – the tournament sees the participation of national football teams from the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Seychelles.

Maldives and Sri Lanka played against each other in the opening match of the tournament. 

During the trip, President Solih called on Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and held talks on an array of subjects of mutual interest as well as reaffirmed the shared commitment to further strengthen Maldives-Sri Lanka ties.

President Solih also attended a luncheon hosted by Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and conversed with him on topics of mutual interest.

In this two-day trip to Sri Lanka, President Solih was accompanied by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a high-level Maldivian delegation.
