COVID-19: 143 new cases; Male' area positivity rate decreased to 2 percent

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Tuesday, announced 143 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 88,058.

According to HPA, the 143 new cases include; 23 cases from the greater Male’ region, 117 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and three cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 119 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 85,942.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,860 active cases.      

There are 30 patients in hospitals.      

3,790 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,265 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area has been decreased to two percent after being increased to three percent on October 25.

Maldives has recorded 243 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August.

As of present, 394,633 people have received their first dose and 358,182 people have been fully vaccinated.
