The UN Climate Change Conferences are held yearly; serving as the formal meeting of the signatories to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The word ‘COP’ stands for ‘Conference of the Parties’. It is the largest platform utilized to address climate change.

COP26 is the 26th climate COP – taking place between October 31 and November 13. It is hosted by the UK in partnership with Italy. The summit will be presided by UK’s Minister of State at the Cabinet Office Alok Sharma.

World leaders will lay out the climate change actions plans at the summit and discussions will be held on how to accelerate the implementation of these plans.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will also be arriving at Scotland today – to attend the conference. He is traveling to Scotland directly from Dubai – after having attended Expo 2020.

COP26 was originally scheduled to take place in November 2020 – however has been delayed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
