COVID-19: 131 new cases; 1,379 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 131 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 86,550.      

According to HPA, the 131 new cases include; 44 cases from the greater Male’ region, 77 cases from residential islands outside Male’, seven cases from operational resorts and three cases from liveaboards.

Meanwhile, 62 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 84,918.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,379 active cases.      

There are 17 patients in hospitals.      

3,889 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,645 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 1 percent.

Maldives has recorded 240 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August. 

As of present, 393,878 people have received their first dose and 353,108 people have been fully vaccinated.
