Doctor who treated deceased three-month-old infant at Thinadhoo suspended

A doctor has been suspended over the death of a three-month-old infant at GDh. Thinadhoo.

The infant died whilst undergoing treatment for COVID-19. Although the death was initially thought to have been a COVID-19 fatality – after a review of the case later on, it was declared non-related to COVID-19, as 16 days had passed since testing positive.

The infant’s family alleges negligence by the hospital in the death.

Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital’s Senor Customer Relations Officer Salim Ali told Sun that the doctor who had treated the infant had been asked to step aside from duties pending the conclusion of the probe into the infant’s death.

Prior to this, Salim had told Sun that the three-month-old infant, identified as a male, was brought to the Thinadhoo Covid Management Facility at approximately 05:00 am on Monday. He passed away shortly after being taken in.

Salim further detailed that the little boy had tested positive for COVID-19 on October 4, and there were other members of his family who had also tested positive.
