COVID-19: 80 new cases, 55 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 80 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 85,278.      

According to HPA, the 80 new cases include; 20 cases from the greater Male’ region, 55 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and five cases from operational resorts.

Meanwhile, 126 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 83,700.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,333 active cases.      

There are 17 patients in hospitals.      

3,761 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,623 from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at one percent.

Maldives has recorded 232 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August.

As of present, 392,773 people have received their first dose and 343,149 people have been fully vaccinated.
