Former Addu City Mayor Sodiq appointed as State Minister for Housing

Former Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq, Kausar, S. Hithadhoo, has been appointed as the Minister of State for National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented the letter of appointment to Sodiq during a special ceremony held at the President’s Office this morning.

Sodiq attained his Bachelor of Science in Applied Science and Chemical Technology from the University of South Australia, in Adelaide, Australia.

He has previously served three consecutive terms as the Mayor of Addu City – from 2011 to 2021. Although he competed for MDP’s ticket in the party’s primary held prior to the most recent local council elections – he had lost.

With the appointment of Sodiq as State Minister to the Housing Ministry – the Ministry currently comprises of four State Ministers, including him. Other State Ministers include Akram Kamaluddin, Shifaz Ali and Mohamed Ali.
