Noting that the accounting sector in the Maldives is largely made up of foreigners – Minster Fayyaz said that an apprenticeship program is set to commence soon – which is aimed at training a large number of locals for the accounting sector.

“Since when we were kids – a thing we constantly hear is that there a lot of accountancy courses in the Maldives. Despite this – there are 4000 foreigners involved in the accounting sector of the Maldives. World Bank is funding this apprenticeship program to train a total of 100 individuals in the accounting,” he had said.

Stressing the information technology is also an important sector – Minster Fayyaz noted that 200 individuals will be trained in this regard under the apprenticeship program.

He also added that participants of the apprenticeship program will be provided an allowance.
