Health Protection Agency (HPA) has placed V. Fulidhoo under monitoring mechanisms again – subsequent to four individuals testing positive for COVID-19.
Fulidhoo was last brought under monitoring mechanisms back in June.
Speaking to Sun today, Fulidhoo Council President Mohamed Imthiyaz said that the individuals to first test positive from the island this time – are tourists who arrived to spend their holiday at a local guesthouse.
“Some tourists who were staying at a guesthouse on this island had tested positive first. Then two employees from the guesthouse who were direct contacts also tested positive. Subsequently, the family members of the employees had undergone tests – out of which four of them had tested positive. This is why the island was placed under monitoring this time,” he had said.
Imthiyaz further detailed that there were 13 active cases on the island at present; seven tourists and six Maldivians.
He also noted that 90 percent of Fulidhoo’s population have completed both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Along with Fulidhoo, there are 22 islands presently under monitoring mechanisms.
