COVID-19: 157 new cases; 2,002 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Saturday, announced 157 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 81,810.      

According to HPA, the 157 new cases include; 45 cases from the greater Male’ region, 106 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 6 case from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 121 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 79,569.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 2,002 active cases.      

There are 27 patients in hospitals.      

4,544 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,456 from the greater Male' region.    

With the 157 new infections this Saturday, 1,132 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.   

September 4: 157 cases 

September 3: 179 cases 

September 2: 173 cases 

September 1: 189 cases 

August 31: 152 cases 

August 30: 169 cases 

August 29: 113 cases 

Maldives has recorded 226 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country has also begun vaccinating children above the age of 12 years. 

As of Friday, 385,554 people have received their first dose and 303,485 people have been fully vaccinated.
