COVID-19: 113 new cases;1,658 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, announced 113 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 80,791.      

According to HPA, the 113 new cases include; 42 cases from the greater Male’ region, 60 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 11 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 137 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 78,894.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,658 active cases.      

There are 16 patients in hospitals.      

5,189 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,561from the greater Male' region.    

With the 113 new infections this Sunday, 832 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.   

August 29: 113 cases

August 26: 108 cases 

August 25: 110 cases 

August 24: 151 cases 

August 23: 108 cases 

Maldives has recorded 226 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives has launched an ambitious campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of this August. The country has also begun vaccinating children above the age of 12 years. 

As of Saturday, 382,677 people have received their first dose and 301,523 people have been fully vaccinated.
