COVID-19: Daily cases surge above 100 again

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, announced 137 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 79,137.      

According to HPA, the 137 new cases include; 30 cases from the greater Male’ region, 92 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 15 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 246 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 77,277.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,626 active cases.      

There are 20 patients in hospitals.      

5,151 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,856 from the greater Male' region.    

With the 137 new infections this Sunday, 781 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.   

August 15: 137 cases 

August 14: 74 cases 

August 13: 111 cases 

August 12: 125 cases 

August 11: 116 cases 

August 10: 110 cases 

August 9: 108 cases 

Maldives has recorded 222 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives has launched an ambitious campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of this August. The country began vaccinating children above the age of 12 years this Sunday. 

As of Saturday, 343,901 people have received their first dose and 295,039 people have been fully vaccinated.
