COVID-19: Daily cases drop below 100 in a first in 12 days

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Saturday, announced 74 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 79,000.      

According to HPA, the 74 new cases include; 13 cases from the greater Male’ region, 51 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 10 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 299 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 77,031.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,735 active cases.      

There are 18 patients in hospitals.      

4,813 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,396 from the greater Male' region.    

With the 74 new infections this Saturday, 757 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.   

August 14: 74 cases 

August 13: 111 cases 

August 12: 125 cases 

August 11: 116 cases 

August 10: 110 cases 

August 9: 108 cases 

August 8: 113 cases 

Maldives has recorded 222 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives has launched an ambitious campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of this August. The country is set to begin vaccinating children above the age of 12 years on Sunday. 

As of Friday, 342,793 people have received their first dose and 294,364 people have been fully vaccinated.
