Five unvaccinated teachers temporarily suspended

Some school teachers have been temporarily suspended for failure of getting vaccinated as part of the effort’s underway curb the spread of COVID-19.

Prior to this, Education Ministry has strictly stated that they would not allow teachers who have not completed a single dose of the vaccine to enter classrooms. Those who are unvaccinated will be barred from entering schools starting next month as well.

Speaking to Sun today, Permanent Secretary of Education Ministry Ahmed Ali had confirmed that five teachers have been temporarily suspended from their posts for failure of getting vaccinated – until the Ministry decides on what action to take against them. However, it was not disclosed as to which schools these five teachers had belonged to.

While the academic new year has commenced yesterday, Education Ministry had announced a vaccine program specially targeted for the education sector last week. Furthermore, Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali has stated that vaccination of students between the ages of 12 and 17 would commence soon.

In addition to this, the Ministry is also set to introduce a ‘Green Card’ for parents who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

As per the Ministry, 96 percent of teachers who work in schools in the greater Male’ region are fully vaccinated.
